Not-for-profit Law Director argues against deferral of the Charities Act

11 December 2013

On 9 December 2012, Director of Not-for-profit Law, Nathan MacDonald, provided evidence before the Senate Community Affairs Legislation Committee on the Social Services and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2013.

The Bill, passed by the House of Representatives last week, seeks to defer the introduction of the Statutory Definition of 'charity' for a further nine months (until September 2014).

Together with Reverend Tim Costello, David Crosbie and Joe Zabar, evidence was provided in support of the existing timeline for commencement of the definition on 1 January 2014.
