Legal training

Justice Connect’s Not-for-profit Law has recorded three easy to understand legal training sessions for Neighbourhood Houses in Victoria.

Free recorded customised training sessions

We’ve partnered with the Victorian Government and Neighbourhood Houses Victoria to provide free recorded training sessions on a range of topics to help people in your organisations better understand (and implement) your key responsibilities and legal obligations. These sessions are delivered in plain language, with no legal jargon, and include opportunities to consider and workshop scenarios and activities.

How our training works

Register below and you'll receive an email within one hour of registering. We'll send you all the information you need to easily watch the recorded session online. You’ll also receive a slide pack and a training workbook.

Watch our practical and engaging training session delivered by an experienced lawyer. We'll deliver plain English legal training in a clear and interactive format, which includes opportunities to work through scenarios and activities by yourself or as a group (which is strongly encouraged to get the most out of the training).

As a charity and not-for-profit ourselves, we understand the issues you face and will help to build the legal capacity of your Neighbourhood House. Register now and you'll recieve a copy of the session recording, workbook and slide presentation (recording available until 9th August 2023), and top tips and additional resources to help you in the future.

Member Disputes and Conflict on the Committee

We'll guide you through how to avoid and manage conflicts and disputes between members or committee members. You’ll gain an understanding of relevant laws and find out where to go if you need further assistance. Allow 2 hours to listen to the training and work through scenarios and activities (approx. 75 minutes of recorded content).

Volunteer Safety Risk and Insurance

In this practical training session for volunteer-involving organisations, we’ll cover the legal basics around your safety obligations, how to manage risk and important things to note about insurance. Allow at least 2 hours to listen to the training and work through scenarios and activities (approx. 90 minutes of recorded content).

Creating Positive Auspicing Relationships

Are you thinking about entering an auspicing arrangement with another group? Or are you in an auspicing arrangement already and wanting to make sure you are getting the most out of it? It's important to understand your key legal requirements. Allow at least 1.5 hours to listen to the training and work through scenarios and activities (approx. 50 minutes of recorded content).
